WONDERFOOD MUSEUM IN PENANG

Last April we were able to visit Penang and Kuala Lumpur for Water Festival. And indeed, Malaysia was truly Asia! There are so much beauty to share about these travel experiences but I have a limited time to write! So, I decided to share a glimpse of Penang thru of our ‘funderful’ experience in Wonderfood Museum in Penang.

We were enticed to checkout this place because this was our first time seeing food being exhibited in a museum. Moreover, the unique thing about this museum is that it celebrates Malaysia’s food heritage. Especially Penang’s rich range of street and local home cooking.

It is located at 49, Lebuh Pantai Georgetown 10300 Penang next to CIMB bank. It’s open from 9am-6pm, 7 days a week.

Admission fee is RM25 for adult and RM15 for children.

As you enter the museum, you would see the different representation of Malaysian cuisines. From Indian, Malay and Chinese favorites are displayed. From those small caricatures to oversized food displays.

In addition to the food displays, the museum also has some props. Which can be used while you pose and take your photo moment.

This Museum also explores food in surrealism. How would you appreciate food if you were colorblind, or highly colored foods, or even rotten foods? Wonder no more, this museum will show you.

The next area we went to is one of the most pictured areas — The Gallery of Giant Food. In this gallery, everything is larger than life. There are many huge bowls of Penang’s most famous vendor food.

On the second floor, you could splurge yourself in a best fine dining. The museum offers a display of the ultimate fine dining, with goldleaf encased food.

Is this food or is it art? At the Wonderfood Museum Penang, food becomes art and art is food.

The good thing about this museum is that it isn’t just about enjoying food. They also reminded us on some food issues.

Are we going to continue consuming sharkfin soup made with real sharkfin knowing the brutal process?

How I wished to have tasted all of these foods in Penang — but it’s okay. At least I enjoyed food without gaining weight. Ha, ha, ha. Wonderfood Museum Penang is a fun, creative, informative and interactive Food Museum that you should see if you visit Penang!
